2021 Kayak Excursions will begin in May and Run Through September!

By participating in an Independence Seaport Museum program, participants voluntarily assume all risks related to potential exposure to COVID-19 in or about Independence Seaport Museum.  The Museum has modified its experience to adhere to safety guidelines and protocols. 

Explore the Delaware River from a whole new point of view! Our guided paddles offer the perfect opportunity to learn or practice the essentials of responsible river kayaking. 

Three Sisters Shipwreck with Kayaking Tutorial

Are you comfortable around the water but new to kayaking? Want some practice before setting out on a longer tour? Then this may be the right excursions for you! This expedition starts with time in the protected area of the Penn’s Landing Marina for kayaking practice, lessons, and guidance from experienced kayaking guides. Once confident with the basics, head out on an easy, 3 mile,  guided expedition on the Delaware River to check out what remains of the Three Sisters shipwreckMust be at least 18 years of age to participate.

Have some kayaking experience, but new to the tidal Delaware? Paddle 6 miles with us to one of Philadelphia’s most Instagrammable locations: Graffiti Pier. We’ll pass by this landmark location and see it from the water. Penn Treaty Park will be another stop on this kayaking adventure. This excursions is best suited for intermediate to advanced paddlers. Must be at least 18 years of age to participate. 

Petty's Island

Excursions Dates and Times:

July: July 24 (11:00AM – 4:00PM)
August: August 7 (11:00AM – 4:00PM), August 8 (11:30AM – 4:30PM)
September: September 4 (10:00AM – 3:00PM)

Cost: $75

This 10-mile eco adventure is for the experienced paddler and nature lover. Gear up to explore the secluded waterways surrounding Petty’s Island, including the Cooper River and the Delaware River Back Channel. Experience the impact of the Clean Water Act, and leave empowered with easy steps you can take to improve the health of our watershed.  Bring your own lunch for a picnic at Pyne Point Park. Perfect for preparing for the Walnut2Walnut Challenge. This excursions is best suited for intermediate to advanced paddlers. Must be at least 18 years of age to participate.

Sunset Paddles

Excursions Date and Time:

May: May 23 (6:00PM – 8:00PM)
August: August 28 (5:00PM – 7:30PM)

Cost: $60

Are you looking for an adventurous alternative to happy hour? This kayaking course will teach you paddling and safety basics before a quick trip out of the basin to take in the city skyline. Must be at least 18 years of age to participate.

All excursions are guided and include a safety orientation and kayaking introduction. Life jackets must be worn at all times.

Paddling times depend on weather conditions, tides, experience, and guided stops. Return times are estimates. Please arrive 30 minutes early. We will be leaving promptly at departure time. Paddles may be canceled for inclement weather events, such as wind, excessive heat or excessive rain, and registered attendees will be notified ideally 12-24 hours beforehand.
