"Annual Regatta of the Pennsylvania Boat Club"
June 2, 1883

Founded in 1858 when nine Philadelphia boat clubs joined together, the Schuylkill Navy is the oldest athletic governing body in the United States. Those original clubs were America, Camilla, Chebucto, Falcon, Independent, Keystone, Neptune, Pennsylvania, and University, with Nautilus and Quaker City joining later that year. The Schuylkill Navy is still in operation today, its boathouses lining Philadelphia’s famous Boathouse Row on the Schuylkill River.
