Docent-Guided tour of Warship Olympia, Submarine Becuna, Self-Guided visit to Seaport Museum & student groups can select an Education Program

The Mighty Warship Olympia is the oldest steel warship afloat in the world. A part of America’s “New Navy”, warship Olympia was launched in 1892 and was the flagship for Admiral Dewey during the Spanish-American War. Descend into a compact, top secret weapon of war and see how life onboard submarine Becuna was not only crowded but dangerous during WWII and The Cold War.  Also, explore 2 floors of interactive exhibits within the walls of our museum as well as select one of our Education Programs for student groups.

Self-Guided Visit of Cruiser Olympia & Submarine Becuna & Museum        

Group Price $8.00 per person & is available for groups of 10 or more.

Make the most out of your Self-Guided Visit by booking one of the following excellent Student Add-Ons:

  • Immigration Experience– Step into the immigration process in the late 1890’s, be given a country of origin and travel back in time while experiencing the steerage section, sleeping quarters, “food”, “medical inspections”, and real life stories of Philadelphia emigrants.  Add $5.00 onto Self-Guided Visit per student- This experience is tailored for 3rd grade – 7th grade students.
  • Workshop on the Water – Enter into the realm of a boat builder. See the tools, talk to a boat builder and hands on (age appropriate) activities with wood and a take away item.  Add $8.00 onto Self-Guided Visit per student. This program is tailored for 7th grade – 12th grade students.

 

Gunpowder and Glory
Group Price $500 for up to 5 people. Participants must be 12 or older.

This private tour experience will take a group, of up to 5 guests, aboard the Cruiser Olympia for a real behind-the-scenes tour with an expert, down in her engine room, weaponry systems and many areas not seen by the general public. Guests will finish the tour by firing one of Olympia's six-pounders! Due to the historic nature and care of Cruiser Olympia, the private tour is only available four times each month, so plan in advance. Tour time is approximately three hours.

 Take a Walk with Independence Seaport Museum                                              

Group Price $15.00 per person. Available for groups of 15 or more.

Our guided walking tours begin at the museum and enter into the Old City area of Philadelphia. Topics include: The Real Pirates of Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin’s First Visit to Philadelphia, The Birth of the American Armed Forces & the Honor, Sacrifice and Freedom Tour

 

Olympia Engine Room: Behind the Scenes and Technology                         
Group Price $20.00 per person.
Available for groups of 15 or more and for ages 12 and older.

Explore the inner workings of the oldest surviving steel warship still afloat! This tour includes an in-depth look at the engine and boiler rooms including a demonstration of working machinery and technical discussions of communications and propulsion technologies.

 

Rum Punch & Revolution                                            
Group Price starts at $48.00 per person.
Available for groups of 25 or more.

Go aboard our historic ships, Olympia & Becuna, and experience the waterfront's rich history and how it has transformed our country. Then take a guided walking tour through Old City and feast on a fantastic lunch or dinner at the famed City Tavern or The Moshulu, which includes a Rum Punch toast. Plus, a sea captain or pirate just might show up with yarns to tell about maritime life in historic Philadelphia.
