Cash

Each year, we ask our members to make an additional tax-deductable gift in support of the Museum. Make your pledge or cash gift using our on-line Annual Fund Pledge Form. Simply print out the Annual Fund Pledge Form from this site, fill it out and send it along with your credit card number or check made payable to:

Independence Seaport Museum

Securities

Giving appreciated securities (that you have owned longer than one year) directly to Independence Seaport Museum, rather than selling them and donating the proceeds of the sale is almost always in the donor’s best interest.

A gift of appreciated securities allows you to claim the full fair market value of the donated shares as a charitable deduction on your income tax, without having to pay capital gains tax on the increase in value of the shares you’ve given to Independence Seaport Museum.

If you are interested in making a stock gift to Independence Seaport Museum, you or the bank, trust or broker holding your stock certificates may call Independence Seaport Museum’s Development Office at 215.413.8611 to get instructions on how to complete the asset transfer.

If you hold the stock certificate(s) yourself, complete the Stock Power Form, and contact Kevin McNamara, Vice President for Development and Marketing at 215.413.8611.

If the stock is registered in more than one name, each person must sign the stock power form. Sign only your name(s) on the form. Independence Seaport Museum will complete all of the other information and will guarantee the signature when the stock certificate is being sent for transfer. If you are giving more than one type of stock, send a Stock Power Form for each stock.

Stock Power Forms are available at most banks or may be printed out from this web site. If you would like to have one mailed or faxed to you, contact Kevin McNamara, Vice President for Development and Marketing at 215.413.8611 or send an e-mail to kmcnamara@phillyseaport.org.

Gifts for Consideration for the Museum’s Collections

If you are interested in presenting a gift for consideration for the Museum’s collections, please print out the Curatorial Gift Proposal Form from this site, fill it out and return it to:

Gift Proposal
ATTN: Craig Bruns, Curatorial Department
Independence Seaport Museum
211 South Columbus Blvd.
Philadelphia, PA 19106-3199

The Gift Proposal Form will assist the Museum in determining if an object would be an appropriate addition to the collections. We also ask that you provide a photograph or photocopy of the object to better help us understand the nature of the proposed gift.

A gift acceptance committee reviews gift proposals and makes determinations based on the artifact’s relevance to the Museum’s collecting scope, the historical significance of the object, whether or not the object would duplicate an existing artifact in the collection, the condition of the object, and any storage conditions that would preclude acceptance of the gift.

The review committee will either request a meeting to look at the object or recommend other institutions that might be more appropriate for the acceptance of the gift. Sometimes additional research is necessary and donors may be asked to loan the object to the Museum for a short period of time.

The gift acceptance committee review process takes four to six weeks to complete. Once a gift has been accepted, the Museum’s registrar issues a receipt and formalized deed of gift, which is executed to complete the gifting process.

For more information on making a gift to the Museum’s collections, please call Craig Bruns, Collections Manager at 215.413.8619 or e-mail cbruns@phillyseaport.org.
