Penn's Landing, Philadelphia PA
Open Daily 10am-5pm (215)413-8655
We invite you to join the docent team at Independence Seaport Museum, one of the nation's premier maritime museums and one of Philadelphia's top tourist destinations. The Seaport is located on Penn's Landing on the Delaware River, a short walk from the Liberty Bell and easily reachable from the tri-state area off Exit 20 of I-95 and public transportation.
Volunteer your time and skills in the Education Department or Curatorial Department; helping out with special events or in the J. Welles Henderson Archives and Library; working in the Seaport's boat-building shop, Workshop on the Water (see below); or on the Museum's two National Historic Landmark ships, the Spanish-American War Cruiser Olympia and the World War II Submarine Becuna.
Consider joining Independence Seaport Museum's dynamic group of volunteers and staff members dedicated to educating the public about the region's maritime heritage. We have openings for both weekday and weekend volunteers. Training is provided.
Our docents are a highly valued, integral part of the Seaport team, are invited to all Museum openings and special events, and have a lot of fun!
It's easy to become a docent! Just email or call Program Manager Megan Fesolovich at mfesolovich@phillyseaport.org or 215.413.8658.
Download and fill out the application here »Workshop on the Water (WOW) is without a doubt one of the most fun places in the Museum -- a genuine working wooden boat workshop. Volunteers are integral to WOW and it is not necessary to be an experienced boat builder or expert wood craftsman. All skill levels are welcome. Volunteers work alongside experienced boatbuilders while learning each phase of wooden boat construction.
To join in the fun, call 215.413.8638 or email Workshop on the Water.
