Seaport Parade of Lights
Independence Seaport Museum is hosting the 3rd annual Seaport Parade of Lights, a lighted boat parade on the Delaware River, on
Saturday, December 15, 2012. The parade will feature both working vessels along with pleasure boats, all decorated with festive holiday lights and decorations.
The festivities begin at 3:00 p.m. with carolers performing holiday favorites and Santa greeting visitors with candy canes. Visitors can enjoy complimentary refreshments (while supplies last) and see a special holiday exhibit inside the Museum. The parade kicks off at 5:00 pm, led by the Jupiter, a vintage 1902 tug maintained by the Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild. Museum visitors will get the best view of the parade from the 2nd floor balcony overlooking the Delaware River. KYW Newsradio personality Steve Nikazy will be the emcee for the Seaport Parade of Lights and there will be a competition for best decorated boat. All activities are included with regular Museum admission.
This year, the Seaport Museum is partnering with Liberty USO to collect gift cards for their Liberty Claus program. Visitors who bring a gift card to the Seaport Museum between Friday, November 23 and Saturday, December 15 to donate to the Liberty Claus program can enter to win a free Family Membership to the Museum. The gift cards will be presented to the Liberty USO at the Seaport Parade of Lights on December 15.
About Liberty USO’s Liberty Claus Program:
A significant number of men and women from Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey will be deployed in Afghanistan this 2012 holiday season. Many of these brave men and women, who are providing for our safety and security at home, leave behind families whose holiday will not be the same without them.
Liberty USO’s 2012 Liberty Claus program will deliver gift cards to military families that need a helping hand this holiday season, particularly those with a deployed loved one. All collected gift card donations will be distributed through various programs and holiday parties at military bases throughout the Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey.
If you or someone you know may want to participate, please fill out the application and send your photo(s) to Gina Pickton at gpickton@phillyseaport.org.
