    Cash & Securities

Each year, we ask our members to make an additional tax-deductible gift in support of the Museum. Make your pledge or cash gift using our online
    Annual Appeal pledge page.

Giving appreciated securities (that you have owned longer than one year) directly to Independence Seaport Museum, rather than selling them and donating the proceeds of the sale is almost always in the donor's best interest.

A gift of appreciated securities allows you to claim the full fair market value of the donated shares as a charitable deduction on your income tax, without having to pay capital gains tax on the increase in value of the shares you've given to Independence Seaport Museum.

If you are interested in making a stock gift to Independence Seaport Museum, you or the bank, trust or broker holding your stock certificates may call Independence Seaport Museum's Development Office at 215.413.8611 to get instructions on how to complete the asset transfer.

If you hold the stock certificate(s) yourself, please contact Independence Seaport Museum’s Development Office at or 215.413.8611.

    Gifts to Collections

If you are interested in presenting a gift for consideration for the Museum's collections, please send contact Curator Craig Bruns at cbruns@phillyseaport.org or 215.413.8619, or mail a letter to:

    Gift Proposal
    ATTN: Craig Bruns, Curatorial Department
    Independence Seaport Museum
    211 South Columbus Blvd.
    Philadelphia, PA 19106-3199

Your Gift Proposal will assist the Museum in determining if an object would be an appropriate addition to the collections. We also ask that you provide a photograph or photocopy of the object to better help us understand the nature of the proposed gift.

A gift acceptance committee reviews gift proposals and makes determinations based on the artifact's relevance to the Museum's collecting scope, the historical significance of the object, whether or not the object would duplicate an existing artifact in the collection, the condition of the object, and any storage conditions that would preclude acceptance of the gift.

The review committee will either request a meeting to examine the object or recommend other institutions that might be more appropriate for the acceptance of the gift. Sometimes additional research is necessary and donors may be asked to loan the object to the Museum for a short period of time.

The gift acceptance committee review process takes up to six weeks to complete. Once a gift has been accepted, the Museum's registrar issues a receipt and formalized deed of gift, which is executed to complete the gifting process.
